EKU Football Plays At Murray State Saturday

MURRAY, Ky. – EKU's football team will look to put an end to a two-game losing skid when the Colonels play at Murray State on Saturday.

The 24th ranked Colonels are 5-4 overall and 4-2 against Ohio Valley Conference teams.  The Racers are 3-6 this season with a 2-4 mark against league teams.
 
Murray State is second in the OVC in total offense (478 ypg) and averages a conference-best 355 passing yards per game.  However, the MSU defense allows the most passing yards (297 ypg) in the league and is second to last in total defense (489 ypg).
 
The Colonels are second in the OVC in total defense (336 ypg), but have given up the fifth most passing yards per game (230 ypg).
 
EKU is third in the OVC in sacks (23) but has only allowed its quarterbacks to be sacked 10 times.  Murray State has given up 24 sacks, second most in the conference.  Eastern's Noah Spence leads the OVC and ranks fourth in FCS with 1.11 sacks per game.  He leads the nation with 2.1 tackles for a loss per game. 
 
The Racers also have the second worst turnover margin in the league.  MSU has turned the ball over 17 times and has only forced 14.  EKU is on the positive side, 16 turnovers gained and only 10 lost.
 
EKU quarterback Bennie Coney threw five touchdown passes against Tennessee-Martin last weekend, tying his own school record that he also shares with T.J. Pryor.  Coney also tossed five scoring passes against Tennessee Tech on Oct. 8.  Coney is seventh on EKU's single season passing yards list with 2,000.  He is six away from Simon Fuentes (2,006) in sixth place and 861 yards behind record holder Josh Greco's 2,861 yards in 2005.
 
Eastern Kentucky leads the all-time series with Murray State, 44-26-4.  The Colonels are 20-15-2 all-time in games played in Murray.  EKU has won nine of the last 10 meetings and 12 of the last 14.  Eastern won 43-36 last season in Richmond.
