RICHMOND, Ky. – The EKU volleyball team fell to the Eastern Illinois University Panthers, 3-1, Friday night at McBrayer Arena.
Eastern Illinois won by scores of 25-21, 22-25, 25-21 and 25-23.
EKU jumped out to an 8-4 lead early in the first set, but Eastern Illinois slowly chipped away at the lead, making it 13-13. The Panthers gained the lead and never trailed the remainder of the set, winning 25-21.
The second set saw EKU trail most of the way, but the Colonels rallied late to even the score at 21. The teams traded points, before
Rachel Vick's kill gave EKU a 23-22 advantage. Vick's kill swung momentum back in favor of Eastern Kentucky, as the Colonels took the second set.
Eastern Kentucky came out of halftime and led early in the third, 7-5. However, EIU gained the momentum on its way to a 25-21 win.
EKU found itself in a large hole late in the fourth set, trailing 23-18. The Colonels took four straight points, cutting the deficit to 23-22. EIU held on to claim the deciding set 25-23, ending the Colonels' comeback bid.
Vick led EKU with 14 kills and hit .448 on the night.
Celina Sanks and
Mallory Maxwell each had 14 digs and
Cassie Knutson totaled 35 assists for the Colonels.
Chelsea Lee finished with a match-high 15 kills for Eastern Illinois.
Eastern Kentucky (8-21, 7-6 OVC) hosts its final home game of the season Saturday as it celebrates Senior Day. Saturday's match against Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is scheduled for 4 p.m.
