On Wednesday, the Colonels (15-9, 7-4 OVC) moved into first place in the Ohio Valley Conference East Division with a 69-57 victory over Morehead State.  EKU used a late 12-2 run to pull away from its in-state rival.  Eric Stutz led EKU with 25 points. Corey Walden finished with 15 points, four assists and two steals.

Eastern's streak of four straight wins includes a 77-72 victory over Tennessee State (5-21, 2-9 OVC) last Saturday in Richmond.  With two minutes to go, Tiger guard Marcus Roper hit a three from the right wing to cut the EKU lead to three.  On the ensuing inbound play, guard Jay Harris stole the ball and laid it in to bring the lead to just one.  A Stutz backdoor cut and lay-up brought the Eastern lead back to three, but on the next possession Roper hit another three to tie the game at 72 with 39 seconds to go.

Two Corey Walden free throws made the lead two again in the Colonels' favor.  On the next possession Roper had his shot blocked by junior Tommy Matthews with 16 seconds left to play.  Timmy Knipp finished with a career-high 23 points, shooting 6-of-8 from three-point land.  Roper had 32 points and finished 7-of-13 from three-point land.

Eastern has won four straight games for the third time this season.  The Colonels began the season with four straight wins and also won four straight in late December and early January.

The Colonels have shot 50 percent or better in each of their past three games and five times in its last eight games.  In its seven OVC wins, EKU has held its opponents to 61.4 points per game.

Eastern is sixth in the OVC in three-point shooting (35.6 percent).  Tennessee State is first in three-point shooting defense (31.8 percent).  The Colonels hit on 10-of-25 three's for 40 percent against TSU last Saturday.

Walden is the only player ranked in the top-10 in the OVC in scoring (2nd), field goal percentage (8th), assists (6th) and steals (1st).  He is averaging 20.2 points, 4.5 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 2.8 steals per game against OVC teams.

Walden has 24 steals in his last seven games and now needs 15 more to break the EKU record for career steals (221).  He is third in the country with 2.96 steals and 31st with 18.9 points per game.

Before facing No. 18 Miami (Dec. 19), Isaac McGlone had hit just 1-of-11 three-point attempts in his previous three games and was shooting 17.2 percent (5-for-29) from deep for the season.  The sophomore nailed 4-of-4 from behind the arc in EKU's 28-point victory over the Hurricanes and is now 25-for-49 (51.0 percent) from long range over the last 15 games.

Stutz has come on strong of late.  Since making just 2-of-7 from the field and finishing with seven points in a loss to Eastern Illinois (Jan. 15), the senior has averaged 20.1 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists while shooting 66 percent from the field the last eight games.  He has the fourth best field goal percentage (62.1 percent) in the nation.

This is the 57th meeting between the Eastern Kentucky and Tennessee State with EKU leading the series 31-25.  Eastern has won nine of the past 12 meetings.
