GULF SHORES, Ala. – In day one of the 2015 Sand Dollar Snow Classic, the Eastern Kentucky University softball team defeated Alabama A&M (2-1) and Wright State (12-3).

Senior pitcher Shaylon Robb (3-1) piled up a career-high 10 strikeouts in the opener against the Lady Bulldogs (7-4).

The Colonels (6-6) got on the board in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a leadoff double from sophomore Krislyn Campos. She later came around to score on junior Sarah Fobbs' sacrifice fly.

After Alabama A&M evened the score in the top of the third, Eastern scored the winning run in the bottom of the fourth. Fobbs led off with an infield single before reaching third on a stolen base and throwing error. The left fielder then touched home plate on a passed ball.

Robb shut the door on the Lady Bulldogs in the final three frames, as the righty did not allow a base runner. The senior tallied her 13th career complete game and first of the 2015 season.

Against Wright State (0-7), the Colonels exploded for four home runs in the 12-3 win. Campos, freshman Paige Murphy and sophomore Amber Murray each notched their first long ball of 2015. Meanwhile, freshman Sarah Jackson hit her third home run, a solo shot in the third inning.

EKU scored three runs in the first and second innings, before ending the game with five runs in the sixth. Campos and Murray tallied back-to-back homers in the sixth inning.

Jackson led the Colonel offensive onslaught against the Raiders by going 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Campos reached base in all four of her at-bats from the leadoff position and scored three times.

The Colonels conclude play at the Sand Dollar Snow Classic tomorrow, March 1 with games against Bradley (11 a.m.) and Alabama A&M (1:30 p.m.).
