NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team dominated its opening two Ohio Valley Conference games Sunday afternoon with victories of 10-0 and 4-1 over host Belmont.

A bases-clearing double by freshman Johnkyria Alston in the top of the first inning of the opener was more than enough offense for senior pitcher Leanna Pittsenbarger (5-5). The righty limited the Bruins (5-14, 0-2 OVC) to just one hit over five innings. Pittsenbarger struck out seven batters while walking only one to earn her third complete game shutout of 2015.

After Eastern (11-12, 2-0) scored four runs in the first, the Colonels tacked on one more run in the second and another four-spot in the fourth to put the game out of reach. Senior Katie Tackett notched her first home run, a two-run blast, in the fourth inning.

In game two, EKU tallied a run in the first and second innings to jump on top of Belmont. Freshman Paige Murphy made the score 4-0 in the fourth with a two-run homer to left center field.

Senior pitcher Shaylon Robb (5-3) scattered five hits over five-plus innings and limited the Bruins to one run. Junior Hayley Flynn got the final six outs without allowing a hit.

Sophomore Amber Murray had a perfect day at the plate, going 6-for-6 with a home run and two doubles. Fellow sophomore Krislyn Campos also swung a hot bat with three extra-base hits – two doubles and a triple – in five at-bats.

Eastern Kentucky continues its road travels this week with a Wednesday (March 18) non-conference doubleheader at Dayton. EKU will play its first home game of the spring this coming Saturday, March 21 against preseason OVC favorite SIUE.
