Colonels Drop Series Finale To SEMO

Box Score

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. –
Eastern Kentuckyfell behind 7-0 after three innings on its way to a 13-1 loss to Southeast Missouri  on Monday in Edwardsville, Illinois.

Due to weather and field conditions in Cape Girardeau, the two teams were playing at the Simmons Baseball Complex on the campus of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Clayton Evans capped a three-run second inning with a two-run single through the left side to give the Redhawks (6-7, 2-1 OVC) all they would need.  Garrett Gandolfo's bases loaded triple fueled a four-run third inning.

A ground ball by Kenny Hostrander got the Colonels (5-9, 1-2 OVC) on the board in the top of the fifth.

Kyle Nowlin went 2-for-4 for EKU.  Gandolfo finished 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs for SEMO.

Alex Hamilton (0-2) started for Eastern and gave up seven runs, only three of which were earned, on seven hits in five innings.  Joey Lucchesi (1-0) allowed just one run on five hits in seven innings of work for the Redhawks.

Weather permitting, EKU will play its first home series of the season beginning Friday when Belmont visits Turkey Hughes Field.  The opener of the 3-game series is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
