RICHMOND, Ky. – Former Eastern Kentucky University football player
Jordan Berry signed with the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers yesterday.
Berry was a member of the EKU football program from 2009-13 and was a three-time All-OVC punter. As a senior, the native of Essendon, Victoria, Australia was part of a punting unit that ranked first in the OVC and fifth nationally (FCS) in net punting at 39.08 yards per punt.
In the 2013 win at Southeast Missouri, Berry nearly set a program record and scored a touchdown on a fake field goal. His first punt that day was a 76-yarder that was just two yards shy of the EKU single-game record. In the second quarter, Berry was the holder as EKU lined up for a 42-yard field goal attempt. He took the snap and ran 25 yards untouched for a touchdown.
Berry also recorded a 77-yard punt against Austin Peay in 2013.
As a freshman in 2010, Berry ranked seventh nationally and set a program single-season record for punting average at 42.9 yards per punt. He went on to break his own record as a senior when he averaged 43.3 yards per punt.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off an 11-5 season in 2014 that culminated with an AFC North Division title. The Steelers have won six Super Bowls, most recently in February 2009 (Super Bowl XLIII).
