RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky fell short in game three against Jacksonville State Sunday afternoon. A fifth inning charge propelled the Gamecocks to a 16-13 victory at Turkey Hughes Field.

Kyle Nowlin began the day with a solo home run to right center field to score Eastern's first run for the third game in a row.

The junior centerfielder was not finished. In the bottom of the third Nowlin hits a two-run shot to get the Colonels within one. He went yard again in the bottom of the fourth. Nowlin hit a grand slam to cap off a five run inning and give the Colonels a 9-5 lead.

The Harrison, Ohio native tied the school record with three home runs in a single game, a feat he has accomplished twice before.  He finished the day 3-for-6 with seven RBIs.

Nowlin was not the only EKU player to hit a home run. Junior Luke Wurzelbacher's solo home run to center field, to lead of the bottom of the second inning, gave the Colonels' an early 2-1 lead. Wurzelbacher ended the day 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Jacksonville State (26-21, 13-11 OVC) regained the lead in the top of the fifth when Pashchal Pertrongolo took a Ben Gullo pitch to deep right field for grand slam to cap an eight-run inning and give the Gamecocks a 13-9 advantage. Pertrongolo finished 3-for-6 with four RBIs.

Eastern Kentucky (17-27, 8-15 OVC) staged a late comeback bid. During the bottom of the eight, EKU put two runners in scoring position. A single by sophomore Shea Sullivan cut the deficit to three heading into the ninth.

Ryan Sebra had a 4-for-5 day with three runs scored for JSU.

In addition to Nowlin, four other Colonels had three hits.  Sullivan went 3-for-6 with a run and two RBIs.  Mandy Alvarez, Ben Fisher and Cole Warrenfeltz also had three hits each.

EKU will be back in action next weekend at Murray State.  Friday's series opener is slated to start at 4 p.m.
