KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky suffered a 3-0 loss at Tennessee on Saturday, the final day of the DISH Tennessee Volleyball Classic.
The Colonels play their first home match of the season on Tuesday against Northern Kentucky. The match, at McBrayer Arena, is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
The Vols (8-0) won by scores of 25-18, 25-23 and 25-16.
A kill by
Celina Sanks followed by a Tennessee attack error gave EKU a 22-20 lead in the second set as the Colonels tried to tie the match. However, the Vols scored four straight to reach set-point. Moments later, Lexi Dempsey's kill finished off the set and put UT on top 2-0.
Sanks finished with a match-best 11 kills.
Rachel Vick had seven kills and five blocks.
Chloe Rojas totaled 13 digs. Rojas earned a spot on the all-tournament team.
Raina Hembry and Bri Holmes had 10 kills each to lead Tennessee. Hembry made just three errors in 15 attacks for a .467 hitting percentage. Bridgette Villano, the tournament MVP, had 20 digs.
EKU (0-7) had just nine fewer kills and made only two more errors, but the Vols came up with 16 more digs than the visitors.
