RICHMOND, Ky. – The EKU volleyball team hosts conference opponents Southeast Missouri State University and the University of Tennessee at Martin at McBrayer Arena this weekend.
The Colonels take on SEMO in a Friday night match scheduled for 7 p.m. and will square off against the Skyhawks in a noon match on Saturday as part of EKU's Homecoming weekend. Friday's match is faculty/staff appreciation and free pink wristbands will be available on Friday while supplies last as part of Breast Cancer Awareness weekend.
Eastern Kentucky returns to McBrayer Arena after last weekend's split at Eastern Illinois and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. EKU held off EIU in a five-set win on Friday, before the Cougars upended the Colonels, 3-1, on Saturday.
Juniors
Celina Sanks and
Nikki Drost rank in the Ohio Valley Conference's top-10 in kills-per-set. Sanks' 2.96 ranks eighth, while Drost's 2.88 kills-per-set is ninth in the league.
Defensively, junior
Mallory Maxwell averages 4.70 digs-per-set for the Colonels. Maxwell combined for 66 digs in EKU's last three matches and finished one dig shy of her career-high (27) in two of those matches.
SEMO (4-18, 3-5 OVC) enters Richmond after posting wins over Belmont University and Tennessee State University last weekend in Cape Girardeau. Junior outside hitter Krissa Gearring leads the conference with 4.42 kills-per-set. Gearring's 4.79 points-per-set is also most in the league.
For the Skyhawks (6-17, 2-6 OVC), junior Jemima Idemudia and senior Colleen Larson pace the defense. Idemuida is fifth in the conference in blocks (1.12 blocks-per-set) and Larson's 3.68 digs-per-set ranks 10th in the OVC. UT Martin topped Tennessee State in five sets last weekend in Martin before falling to Belmont, 3-1, on Saturday.
