RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky came back to win the third and fourth sets, but fell to the Bruins of Belmont University in five on Friday at the Curb Event Center.
Belmont won by scores of 25-22, 25-17, 23-25, 21-25 and 15-12.
Celina Sanks led three Colonels (13-14, 8-7 OVC) with double figure kills, finishing with 16.
Nikki Drost had 14 kills and
Cassie Knutson finished with 13.
Rachel Woody totaled 44 assists and 13 digs.
Belmont out-blocked Eastern 10-4. Arianna Person posted a match-best 28 kills to go along with 19 digs and three blocks for the Bruins.
Eastern had an 11-10 lead in the fifth set after a kill by
Kaylin Johnson. However, Belmont rolled off five of the final six points and won the match on back-to-back kills by Alexa Nichols.
The Colonels have clinched a berth in next week's Ohio Valley Conference tournament. With one regular season match remaining, EKU is tied for fifth place in the league standings.
EKU stays in Nashville for Saturday's match at Tennessee State University. The regular season finale is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
