Asante Gist took over the game in the second, scoring 17 of his game-high 19 points in the final 20 minutes to seal the victory for the Colonels. It was EKU's first win over WKU since 1987, and it snapped a 13-game losing streak to the Hilltoppers.

Nick Mayo delivered a career game on Saturday as Eastern rolled past Marshall, 89-80, in Richmond. Mayo poured in a career-high 30 points and matched a career-high with 10 boards. He also dished out four assists and blocked a shot. Mayo's performance led the Colonels to their first win over the Thundering Herd since 1977.
- Gist was voted OVC Freshman of the Week on Monday. The native of East Orange, New Jersey averaged 16.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists-per-game in the two EKU victories last week. It is Gists's second OVC Freshman of the Week honor this season.
- Mayo is currently fourth in the OVC in scoring (20.2 points-per-game). He ranks 17
th in the country in total points (182).
- EKU has now out-rebounded its opponent in the last five games. The Colonels rebounded their opponent only seven times all of last season.
- Eastern leads the OVC in free throw percentage (75.9%). The Colonels also rank second in the league and in the top-40 in the country in three-pointers made/game (9.6).
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
- This is the first-ever matchup between EKU and ASUN member Jacksonville.
- The Dolphins are currently 6-3 with wins over Denver, Youngstown State, Florida International, Trinity Baptist, North Carolina A&T and Bethune-Cookman.
- JU is led by J.R. Holder, who is averaging 19.6 points-per-game.
