Box Score
ROSEMONT, Ill. – A two-out RBI single in the bottom of the second inning lifted Loyola University to a 1-0 win over the EKU softball team Friday at The Dome.
Despite valiant efforts from junior pitcher
Alex Sallberg and senior right-handed hurler
Hayley Flynn, the Ramblers' solitary run was enough to clip the Colonels in the opening game of the Total Control Invitational.
Sallberg and the Colonel defense limited the efficiency of the Rambler offense through the first two innings. The Ramblers scattered seven hits to no avail, until a two-out RBI single from Hannah Jenkins.
Loyola's Brie Pasquale singled to left to start the inning, before Sallberg and the EKU defense retired the next two batters in order. However, a ground out back to the mound advanced Pasquale to second. Jenkins then dropped the RBI single to left center to give the Ramblers lead for good.
Flynn came in relief in the bottom of the third on her way to a season-high nine strikeouts, finishing one short of matching a career-high.
Paige Murphy went 2-for-3 from the plate to lead EKU.
The Colonels (3-2) return to action on Saturday as they take on University of Illinois Chicago and Green Bay. Saturday's games are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. ET.
