EKU Rolls To 9-1 Win Over Lipscomb

Box Score

ROSEMONT, Ill. –
The EKU softball team picked up where it left off Saturday, on its way to a 9-1 win over Lipscomb University in EKU's final game of the Total Control Invitational on Sunday.

The Colonels (6-2) went 3-1 over the weekend at The Dome, notching 28 runs in their three wins.

"It's not always that you have the three different phases of the game clicking at the same time," Head Coach Jane Worthington said. "That's what happened the last three games. Our girls are working together towards the same goals and it's paying off."

Lipscomb struck first in the top of the third to take a 1-0 lead on an RBI single from Brittany Elmore for its only lead of the contest.

EKU promptly countered, capitalizing off the speed of its base runners. Amber Murray doubled to left, before Krislyn Campos dropped a single to center field, putting two on for the Colonels. Campos swiped second, allowing Murphy to cross the plate on the throw to even the score.

Senior pitcher Hayley Flynn and the Colonels nixed any potential offensive threat from Lipscomb through the remaining innings, as the EKU offense kept rolling.

The Colonels added three runs in the fifth, before logging five more in the sixth inning to secure the win.

With two outs, EKU strung together hits from Kayla Joyce, Paige Murphy and Hannah Clark. Murphy singled to left, scoring Campos who drew a base on balls two batters earlier.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Colonels negated any chance for a comeback with five additional runs.

Campos drove in Johnkyria Alston, as a Lipscomb error sent Brittany Oldaker home for the score. Later in the inning, a ground out to second from Joyce scored Murray as the Colonels led 7-1.

Clark's two-run single to right field clinched the 9-1 win for the Colonels.

Flynn was, again, stellar on the mound, tossing her first complete game of the season. She logged six innings and allowed only three hits in the win, adding seven strikeouts.

Clark finished 2-for-4 on the day with four RBIs to lead the EKU offense, as seven Colonels recorded hits in the win.

The Colonels travel to Montgomery, Alabama this weekend for Alabama State University's Hornet Tournament. EKU takes on the University of Akron on Friday in the first of four weekend games.
