Game 1 | Game 2
STATESBORO, Ga. – The EKU softball team dropped its final two games of the Eagle Classic in a 5-2 loss to Harvard University and a 1-0 loss to host Georgia Southern on Sunday.
The Colonels (12-5) won two of their first three games of the weekend, falling to the University of North Dakota in Friday's lone game before avenging the loss Saturday and taking down Harvard in their first meeting of the weekend.
On Sunday, the EKU offense responded in both innings Harvard crossed the plate but could not tally enough runs for the win.
A three-run homer from Harvard (4-4) in the top of the third put the Crimson up 3-0 over the Colonels.
On the other side of the inning, an RBI single from
Paige Murphy closed the lead to two.
After a scoreless fourth, Harvard added two more runs in the top of fifth taking a 5-1 lead over EKU.
Krislyn Campos drove a shot to the gap in left center for a double to score
Amber Murray, cutting the Harvard lead back to three with one out. However, the Colonel offense could not capitalize again as they left one aboard to end the inning, as the Crimson held on for the win.
In Sunday's finale, it was a pitching duel between EKU senior
Hayley Flynn and Georgia Southern's Kierra Camp.
Flynn masterly impeded the Georgia Southern offense, holding the Eagles hitless through the first four innings.
The Eagles landed a single in the fifth but to no avail. With EKU still scoreless, a leadoff triple from Lydia Witkowski threatened early in the top of the sixth. A sacrifice fly to left field from Taylor Rogers in the nexst at bat gave Georgia Southern the only run it needed to pick up the win over the Colonels.
Despite the loss, Flynn's performance was stellar. The senior logged six innings, allowing just three hits and one run in the loss and recorded seven strikeouts.
Campos finished the day 3-for-7 from the plate and scored one run to lead EKU. The junior's double in Sunday's first game was the only extra base hit of the day for the Colonels.
EKU hosts Dayton on Tuesday for a double header in the home opener at Gertrude Hood Field. Tuesday's first game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
