CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Mandy Alvarez hit his 10th home run of the season, and
Kyle Nowlin and
Alex Holderbach had three hits each in Eastern's 14-4 loss at Austin Peay on Sunday.
Alvarez led off the top of the sixth with a solo shot over the wall in left center. It was his second home run of the week. His two-out, two-strike RBI single through the left side in the seventh made it a 3-run game, 7-4. The senior finished 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.
APSU scored seven runs combined in the seventh and eighth innings to put the game out of reach.
EKU (17-24, 7-11 OVC) got on the board in the fourth inning. Nowlin had a double and two batters later
Ben Fisher drove him home with a single to center field.
Alex Holderbach had an RBI single in the fifth.
Nowlin went 3-for-4 with a run scored. Holderbach had three hits in four at bats and drove in a run.
Austin Peay (25-13, 15-6 OVC) jumped out early with two runs in the first and four more in the second. Logan Gray hit a two-run home run to get the Governors on the board in the first inning. Back-to-back-to-back RBI singles by Clayton Smithson, Garrett Copeland and Patrick Massoni brought home the first three runs in the second.
Gray was 3-for-5 with two home runs, two runs and five RBIs.
The Colonels will play at Tennessee on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
