Box Score (PDF)

OXFORD, Ala. –
A three-run sixth inning lifted Southern Illinois University Edwardsville to a 3-2 win over the EKU softball team in Saturday's elimination game of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament at Choccolooco Park.

EKU (37-17) held the Cougars scoreless through the first five innings, as the Colonels held a 2-0 lead after a solo homer from sophomore Johnkyria Alston and a sacrifice fly RBI from freshman Brittany Oldaker.

Alston belted the 0-1 pitch over the wall in left field for her second homer of the season to give EKU a 1-0 lead in the top half of the first. The Colonels added another run in the fourth following singles from Hannah Clark and Rachel Minogue along with a base on balls from junior Krislyn Campos to load the bases.

Oldaker then tagged a deep fly ball to left field to score Minogue to extend the EKU lead.

SIUE's (27-25) Rachel Keller's three-run homer in the top of the sixth put the Cougars in front, 3-2.

The Colonels' comeback attempt fell short, as a ground out left two stranded to end the contest. The loss ends the EKU season.

Alston went 2-for-3 from the plate with one RBI to lead the Colonels.

EKU recorded its best start in the program's 24-year history to start the season. Seven Colonels were named All-OVC tying the second most in a season for EKU.

The Colonels advanced to Saturday's elimination game after defeating Tennessee Tech and Eastern Illinois. EKU fell to regular season conference champion and overall No. 1 seed Jacksonville State on Friday night.
