COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Behind senior Hayley Flynn's ninth complete game of the year and 24th win, the EKU softball team picked up a 7-1 win over Tennessee Tech University to split Saturday's Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader at Tech Softball Field.
 
Flynn went the distance for EKU in game two, allowing just four hits and one run. The Chandlersville, Ohio native struck out five in the win. Offensively, senior Kayla Joyce led the Colonels going 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and two stolen bases in game two.
 
TTU (23-30, 14-12 OVC) won game won over EKU 6-0. 
 
Eastern Kentucky (34-15, 16-8 OVC) struck first on a two out, RBI double to the gap in right center from junior Amber Murray in the top of the second to take a 1-0 lead.
 
The Colonels added another run in the third after a leadoff single through the right side from Joyce to give EKU a 2-0 lead. With Joyce at first, sophomore Paige Murphy laid a precision sacrifice bunt down the third base line to advance Joyce, putting her in scoring position.
 
In the sixth freshman Sarah Jackson sent a 2-2 pitch on a rope back to the mound for an RBI single, as freshman Hannah Clark's run pushed the EKU lead to 3-0 with no outs in the inning. With two on, Murray dribbled the first pitch she saw down the first base line to load the bases for the Colonels.
 
After TTU recorded a double play, Joyce's two RBI single to center field gave the Colonels a 5-0 advantage.
 
Tech's Sabrie Need homered in the sixth to give the Golden Eagles their first run of the game with a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth, before EKU plated two insurance runs in the top of the seventh.
 
Following back-to-back singles from senior Sarah Fobbs and Clark, sophomore Johnkyria Alston drove a single up the middle to score Clark. Jackson logged an RBI with a grounder to second base as EKU extended its lead to 7-1 and earn the split.
 
The Golden Eagles claimed game one after taking an early lead. Tech never trailed after plating two runs in the home half of the first.
 
Olivia Bennett and Callen Griffin had RBI singles to give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead. In the second, Gabby Perez's RBI single put the Golden Eagles up 3-0, before Bennett's RBI single gave TTU another run. Perez also scored on the play on an EKU scoring error to put the Golden Eagles up five. TTU added a run in the fourth on their way to the game one win.
 
Joyce finished the day 5-for-7 with two RBI and one run for the Colonels.
 
Sunday's series finale is scheduled for a 2 p.m. ET first pitch.
