COOKEVILLE, Tenn. — The EKU volleyball team opens the Ohio Valley Conference portion of its schedule this weekend as it hits the road to take on Tennessee Tech University and Jacksonville State University.
The Colonels (5-7) are coming off a 2-1 finish at the Red Flash Classic, defeating Saint Francis University and Iona College last weekend. Junior defensive specialist
Mallory Maxwell was named OVC Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week on Monday.
Maxwell recorded 59 digs in three matches, averaged 6.56 digs-per-set, and added eight assists for the Colonels. The Chicago, Illinois native ranks second in the conference with a 4.89-dig-per-set average through EKU's first 12 matches.
Offensively, sophomore
Cassie Knutson knotted the OVC Co-Offensive Player of the Week after a team-high 32 kills and a .411 attack percentage over the weekend. Junior
Celina Sanks' 3.15 kills-per-set ranks eighth in the league, while her 3.40 points-per-set is 10th in the OVC.
Tennessee Tech (4-9) is coming off a 0-3 finish at the Idaho Volleyball Classic. The Golden Eagles have lost their last seven matches. Sophomore Shealene Little leads TTU with 112 kills on the season. Sophomore Shaneice James' .303 hitting percentage leads the Golden Eagles and is fourth in the conference.
JSU (10-8) has won two of its last three matches including a 3-0 victory at Alcorn State University on Tuesday. The Gamecock defense ranks atop the league in blocks (2.81 bps) and hold its opponents to a league-best .153 hitting percentage. Jacksonville State sophomore Mackenzie Rombach's 1.16 blocks-per-set is third in the conference.
Friday's match is scheduled for an 8 p.m. ET first serve. Saturday's match is slated for a 3 p.m. ET start.
