Box Score vs. CSF | Box Score vs. EWU

PHOENIX, Ariz. –
The EKU volleyball team split on the final day of the Grand Canyon University Tournament at Antelope Gymnasium on Saturday. The Colonels picked up their first win of the season with a 3-1 win over California State University—Fullerton before falling to Eastern Washington University in five sets.

The Colonels topped the Titans by scores of 27-25, 18-25, 25-22, and 25-22. Eastern Washington outlasted EKU with scores of 15-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-23, and 15-5.

Junior Nikki Drost compiled 21 kills and 28 digs to go with four service aces on the day for EKU. Fellow junior Celina Sanks posted a team-high 12 kills in Saturday's first match and followed with a team-high 15 kills in the loss to Eastern Washington. Drost and Mallory Maxwell were named to the all-tournament team.

Trailing by one, Drost evened the score at 24 with her third kill of the set. Drost's kill swung momentum in favor of the Colonels, before junior Mallory Maxwell and EKU clinched the set with a service ace.

The Titans edged the Colonels in the second set, but the Cal State Fullerton rally was short lived as the Colonels solidified their first victory of the season, winning 25-22 in the following two sets.

In Saturday's second match, the Colonels held a 2-1 lead heading into the fourth set as EKU looked to notch its second win of the day.

However, Eastern Washington rallied from behind to clinch the fourth and fifth sets to defeat EKU in five.

EKU visits Akron, Ohio next weekend for three matches at the Akron Invitational. The Colonels will take on Youngstown State University on Friday and Akron University and Canisius College on Saturday. Friday's match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. ET first serve.
