EKU Volleyball Set To Host Pivotal Season Finale Against Murray State

RICHMOND, Ky. –
The Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team is set to host a pivotal home match against Murray State on Saturday for its season finale.
 
The contest will determine if the Colonels will be the three or four seed going into the Ohio Valley Conference tournament next week.
 
First serve is set for 5 p.m.
 
HERE'S THE SKINNY:
 
-EKU (12-17, 10-5 OVC) comes into the matchup after a mid-week four-set loss at Morehead State on Tuesday.
 
-In Tuesday's loss Celina Sanks notched a season-high 22 kills, moving the senior into the 10th all-time in career kills with 1,275. The Butler, Pennsylvania native is seventh in the conference in points-per-set with 3.67 and 10th in service aces-per-set with 0.28.
 
-Clairissa Hankinson notched a career-high seven blocks against the Eagles.
 
-Chloe Rojas continues to be fourth in the conference in digs-per-set with 4.42.
 
-Cassie Knutson received Honorable Mention from VolleyMob after her performance last weekend that included 6.86 assists-per-set, 4.00 digs-per-set, 3.29 kills-per-set and 0.71 blocks-per-set.
 
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT:
 
MURRAY STATE
-The Racers (19-8, 11-4) ride a four match winning streak into the contest, most recently taking down No. 1 Austin Peay State on its home floor.
 
-Murray State boasts Rachel Giustino who is first in the conference in points-per-set (4.68) and is tied with teammate Becca Fernandez for seventh in service aces-per-set (0.34).
 
-Fernandez leads the Racers in digs with 404 on the year.
 
-Katira Johnson comes in at second in the league in hitting percentage (.361). Johnson and Giustino tie for the team lead in blocks with 45 on the year.
 
-As a team Murray is out-hitting opponents .192-.189.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
-EKU will take part in the OVC Tournament next week, location and dates are to be determined.
