CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Despite winning the first set, the Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team could not hold off No. 1 Austin Peay State in the semifinal match of the 2017 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Friday night at the Dunn Center, falling in four sets.

The Colonels lost by scores of 25-19, 12-25, 14-25 and 12-25.

EKU jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in the first set after a kill from
Kaylin Johnson and never looked back. The Gov's tied the set but never led. At the 21-16 mark the Colonels took their largest lead of the set off of a kill from
Celina Sanks. Austin Peay responded with a kill and a block, 21-18, but Eastern took four of the next five points to close the set, 25-19, and take the 1-0 advantage.

Sanks led the team with 18 kills and 13 digs.
Cassie Knutson contributed a team second-best eight kills, she also added 15 assists.
Maria Ferragonio led the Colonels with 16 assists.

Brooke Moore led the charge for the Governors with a match-best 22 kills and 18 digs.

Eastern Kentucky finishes the season with a 13-19 record.
