KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team fell at No. 19 Tennessee, 10-1, on Tuesday evening at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

The nationally-ranked Volunteers plated six runs in the bottom of the first, and never looked back en route to their 32
nd win of the season.

Senior
Kelly Wood drove in the Colonels' only run with a double in the top of the second. Senior
Amber Murray and sophomore
Hannah Clark also recorded hits in the loss.

Tennessee (32-5) pounced early, as leadoff batter Aubrey Leach opened the bottom of the first with an infield single and then scored on a home run to right center by Brooke Vines. The Vols added four more runs in the frame to grab an early 6-0 lead.

EKU (14-19) responded in the top of the second. Clark lined a one-out single into right field and went to second when sophomore
Brittany Oldaker was hit by a pitch. Wood then laced a double down the left field line, plating Clark.

That was all the Colonels could muster, though, as UT pitcher Matty Moss allowed only the one run over 3.1 innings to earn her 16
th win of the year.

Freshman
Mollie Paulick started on the mound for EKU but gave way to senior
Alex Sallberg in the first inning. Sallberg surrendered four runs over the next four innings, striking out three.

Eastern returns to action on Saturday when the Colonels host SIUE in their home opener. The doubleheader will serve as the grand opening for the new Gertrude Hood Field.
