EKU Hosts A Pair Of League Matches This Weekend

RICHMOND, Ky. –
The Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team hosts a pair of Ohio Valley Conference matches this weekend, welcoming in Tennessee Tech at 6 p.m. on Friday and Jacksonville State at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
 
HERE'S THE SKINNY:
 
-The Colonels (3-13, 1-1 OVC) opened up conference play last weekend in Nashville. They split the weekend, picking up a win over Tennessee State but dropping a five-set decision at Belmont.
 
-Celina Sanks leads the Colonels in kills with 165 on the season thus far. The senior from Pennsylvania is averaging 2.62 kills-per-set. She has also notched a team second-best 113 digs and a third-best 22 blocks.
 
-Junior libero Chloe Rojas leads the team with 219 digs on the season.
 
-Multiple Colonels had big weekends to open league action on a good note:
  • Freshman Lauren Kolenik had a career day at Belmont, tallying 13 kills and four blocks.
 
  • Setter Rachel Woody notched her first triple-double of the season against the Bruins with 21 assists, 11 digs and 10 kills.    
   
-EKU returns all letterwinners from last season.
 
-Drost and Woody were both named All-OVC Preseason Selections going into the season.
 
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
 
TENNESSEE TECH
-The Golden Eagles (2-12, 0-2 OVC) come into Friday's competition on a 12-game skid, most recently dropping matches to conference foes Jacksonville State and UT Martin.  
 
-TTU has three players that rank in the conference overall in their respective categories: Shealene Little ranks third in kills with 166, Susie Jeziorowski ranks third in assists with 443 and Allison Morrett ranks eighth in digs with 175.
 
-Tennessee Tech is being out-hit by opponents .246-to-.168.  
 
JACKSONVILLE STATE
-JSU (14-6, 1-1 OVC) comes into the weekend winning 4-of-5 of its last matchups, most recently dropping a match to Southeast Missouri State.
 
-The Gamecocks boast two studs in Mackenzie Rombach and Allyson Zuhlke. Rombach ranks fourth in the conference in hitting percentage with a .331 while Zuhlke ranks sixth in hitting percentage (.310), fourth in kills (245) and sixth in service aces (26).  
 
-As a team Jacksonville State is leading opponents in multiple categories, some of those being: Hitting percentage (.229-.167), assists (862-789) and digs (1115-1022).
 
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
-EKU hosts Morehead State in a midweek matchup starting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4.
