Colonels Travel To Nashville To Take On Tennessee State, Belmont

NASHVILLE, Tenn. –
The Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team will travel to Music City this weekend to take on Tennessee State and Belmont.
 
Friday's match against the Tigers is set for 7 p.m. while Saturday's match will begin at 3 p.m.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
 
-The Colonels (3-13, 2-2 OVC) fell to Murray State on Saturday.
-Rachel Woody led the team with a 20 assist, 10 dig double-double.
-Cassie Knutson led the offensive effort with 13 kills while Chloe Rojas led the way defensively with 16 digs.
-Knutson was named the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week last week after recording 43 kills on .302 hitting. She added 10 assists and six blocks.
-Knutson is leading the Colonels offensively with 151 kills on the year, while Chloe Rojas is leading the defensive effort with 225 digs.
-Rojas was the third Colonel to take Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year following the 2017 campaign.
-Rojas and Knutson were each named to the preseason all-conference team.
-Head Coach Lori Duncan is entering her 21st and final season.
-The Colonels return eight, welcome in two transfers and bring in five freshmen.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
 
TENNESSEE STATE
-Tennessee State fell to Middle Tennessee in a five-set battle on Tuesday night, but won four in a row before that.
-The Tigers are undefeated in OVC play, 4-0, with a 6-9 mark on the year.
-Julia Pierson leads TSU offensively with 188 kills while Gina Rivera Ortiz leads defensively with 275 digs.
 
BELMONT
-The Bruins are 0-16 on the season and 0-3 in OVC action.
-Maggie Mullins leads the charge offensively with 124 kills.
-Haley Sullivan is anchoring the back court with 122 digs.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
-EKU will return to McBrayer Arena to host the University of Tennessee at Martin and Southeast Missouri State on October 11 and 12.
