Colonels Return Home For A Pair of OVC Matches

RICHMOND, Ky. –
The Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team will return home for a pair of Ohio Valley Conference matches this weekend against the University of Tennessee at Martin on Thursday and Southeast Missouri State on Friday.
 
Thursday's match will be at McBrayer Arena, but Friday's match will be held at Madison Central High School. Both matches are set to begin at 6 p.m.
 
Live statistics will be available for each match. Live video will be available against UT Martin.
 
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
 
-The Colonels (3-15, 2-4 OVC) dropped matches at Tennessee State and Belmont last weekend.
-Cassie Knutson is leading the Colonels offensively with 207 kills on the year.
-Chloe Rojas is anchoring the back court with 295 digs.
-Rojas was the third Colonel to take Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year following the 2017 campaign.
-Rojas and Knutson were each named to the preseason all-conference team.
-Head Coach Lori Duncan is entering her 21st and final season.
-The Colonels return eight, welcome in two transfers and bring in five freshmen.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
 
UT MARTIN
-The Skyhawks (8-11, 2-4 OVC) come into the contest after dropping a pair of conference matches last week to Jacksonville State and Southeast Missouri.
-Hannah Phillips leads UTM with 185 kills, she also has racked up 35 blocks on the year.
-Brooke Gyori is leading the defensive charge with 373 digs on the season.
 
SOUTHEAST MISSOURI STATE
-The Redhawks (12-7, 4-2 OVC) have won four of their last five matches, including two in a row over conference opponents UT Martin and Tennessee Tech.
-Laney Malloy is leading offensively with 252 kills.
-Ally Dion is anchoring the defense with 271 digs.
 
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
-EKU will travel to Illinois to take on SIUE and EIU on October 19-20.
