Gameday: @EKUHoops Set to Host Marshall in 2018-19 Season Opener

RICHMOND, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University men's basketball team will open the 2018-19 season by hosting Marshall on Wednesday night at McBrayer Arena. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The game will air live on ESPN3.  The live radio broadcast of the game is available in the Richmond area on WCYO 100.7 FM, and can be heard worldwide on EKUSports.com.

WHAT TO KNOW

- EKU defeated Kentucky Christian, 136-92, in an exhibition game on Nov. 1 at McBrayer Arena. Junior Lachlan Anderson poured in 26 points and pulled down 16 boards in the victory.

- Senior Nick Mayo enters this senior season with 1,582 career points ... 251 shy of breaking the EKU career scoring record held by Matt Witt (2002-06).

- EKU's first-year head coach A.W. Hamilton will be making his Division-I head coaching debut against his alma mater on Wednesday. Hamilton starred at Marshall from 2002-05 and graduated from the school in 2005 with a degree in communications.

- Mayo was named to the Preseason All-OVC Team in late October. The senior from Maine is a three-time first team All-OVC performer.

- EKU has been picked to finish anywhere from sixth to 11th in the OVC this season, depending on the publication you're reading.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

- This is the 43rd all-time meeting between EKU and Marshall. The Colonels lead the series with the Thundering Herd, 23-19.

- The last time Marshall visited Richmond, EKU defeated the Thundering Herd, 89-80, on Dec. 3, 2016. Nick Mayo scored 30 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in that win.

- Marshall went 27-11 last year and advanced to the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament following an opening-round win over No. 4 Wichita State.

- The Thundering Herd is led by senior Jon Elmore, who averaged 22.7 points-per-game last season.
