WILMINGTON, N.C. – Eastern saw Lehigh score three runs in the final two innings to come from behind for a 5-4 victory on Saturday in Wilmington.

The Colonels (0-2) had a 4-2 lead going into the top of the eighth. Lehigh (1-1) closed the gap to one and then plated two in the ninth to take the lead. The Mountain Hawks tied it when James Bleming scored on a fielding error and took the lead when Jeff Shanfeldt scored on a throwing error.

EKU fell behind 1-0 after the top of the first inning, but manufactured a pair of runs in the bottom half to take the lead.Â
Nick Howie hit a one-out double to right field and
Daniel McFarland was hit by a pitch to put two runners on. The two moved up a base on a wild pitch. Howie then scored on a passed ball. With runners on the corners, the Colonels tried to execute a double steal.Â
Tyler Romanik was tagged out in a run down, but not before McFarland scored from third to make it 2-1.

Eastern added two more in the bottom of the second on a double by
Chris Botsoe that scored
Ryland Kerr and
Daniel Harris IV.

Austin Perry started on the mound for EKU. He allowed two unearned runs on seven hits in four innings. The senior transfer from Milligan College walked one and struck out six.

Logan Teague threw three and two-thirds innings of relief. He gave up one run on two hits, walked two and got seven of his 11 outs by strike out.

Five different players had one hit each for EKU. Botsoe finished 1-for-4 with two RBIs. The Eastern Kentucky pitching staff totaled 14 strike outs compared to just six for Lehigh.

The Colonels conclude play at the Hughes Bros. Challenge on Sunday against Butler University. The game is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
