GAME ONE BOX | GAME TWO BOX
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Four home runs by four different Colonels powered the Eastern Kentucky University softball team to a pair of wins on day two of the Buccaneer Invitational hosted by Charleston Southern.
In game one the two teams battled through five innings and were unable to put anyone across.
Melissa Jacobsen singled to right field and stole second to start the sixth inning rally. Destinee Lizzmore then took a stroll to first base to put two on for Paige Murphy. The Louisville, Kentucky native blasted one over the center field wall for a three-run round-tripper to break the tie and put the Colonels up 3-0.
North Carolina Central got one on in the top of the seventh, but were unable to move her around, giving Eastern the win.
In game two Valparaiso struck first, homering to left field in the second to make it a 2-0 game, but EKU scored 14 unanswered runs to down the Crusaders.Â
Emily Corbitt started the third with a double down the left line, but Lizzmore brought her back around after sending one out of the ball park.
Hannah Clark kept in tempo lacing one over the left field wall to start the fourth inning. Zoe Mihalicz and Carly Robinson collected singles to put two on for junior Emily Corbitt. The junior also found the fence, notching her first long ball as a Colonel, to clean the bases and put EKU up 6-3.
The bats continued to swing throughout game two as Eastern Kentucky continued to tack more on, taking game two, 16-3.
Six Colonels notched RBIs while four notched two or more.Â
EKU improves to 5-3 on the season while North Carolina Central falls to 0-3 and Valpo drops to 4-3.
The Colonels will be back in action next weekend at the Black and Orange Challenge in Macon, Georgia.
