Despite Strong Pitching, Baseball Drops Series Finale At Belmont

Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn. –
Two pitchers combined to limit Belmont to four hits and three runs, but the Bruins out-pitched the Colonels to earn a 3-2 victory in the Ohio Valley Conference series finale on Sunday.

Logan Teague (1-2) started for EKU and allowed three runs on four hits in five and two-thirds innings of work.  He walked four and struck out four.  Casey Collins pitched two and one-thirds innings of scoreless, and hitless, relief.  He did not walk a batter and struck out four.

Trailing 1-0 going into the second inning, Eastern Kentucky (5-11, 0-3 OVC) tied the game when Alex Holderbach scored on a ground ball from Nick Howie.

Eastern attempted to rally from a 3-1 deficit in the seventh.  With one out, Howie hit a solo home run, his team-best third of the season.  However, Casey Queener struck out the next batter and got a ground ball to end the inning and the EKU rally attempt.

Queener (2-1) allowed two runs on four hits over seven innings for the Bruins (6-9, 3-0 OVC).  Kyle Brennan and Logan Bowen combined to pitch two innings of scoreless relief, allowing just one hit.

Howie finished 1-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.

The Colonels will be back in action on Tuesday at in-state rival Western Kentucky University.  The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. ET.
