OXFORD, Ala. –
Jack Piekos tossed a quality start, but it wasn't enough for the Eastern Kentucky  baseball team as the Colonels fell, 6-1, against Jacksonville State in game two of an Ohio Valley Conference series on Saturday.

EKU (23-21, 13-7 OVC) scratched one run across when Daniel McFarland got hit by the pitch to bring home Alex Holderbach in the top of the eighth, but the Colonels were down 6-0 at the time.

Jacksonville State (24-14, 12-8 OVC) used a five-run bottom of the seventh to take a 6-0 lead. Alex Strachan singled to right center to bring in Trent Simpson and Andrew Naismith. Cole Frederick singled to center field and bring home Strachan. Chase Robinson brought home Hayden White with a single of his own. Frederick would later score on a wild pitch in the inning.

JSU got on the board first when Clayton Daniel singled up the middle to score White in the bottom of the sixth for a 1-0 lead.

Piekos (2-3) threw six and two-third innings with nine strikeouts and allowed three runs, only one of which was earned.

Nick Howie was 1-for-1 with three walks on the day. The Colonel offense was limited to just four hits.

White went 2-for-3 with one double. Frederick was 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Eastern Kentucky and Jacksonville State return to the field for the rubber game of the series Sunday at 2 p.m.
