RICHMOND, Ky. – Four Eastern Kentucky University softball players launched home runs to secure a conference sweep of Belmont University Wednesday afternoon at Gertrude Hood Field. The Colonels won by scores of 1-0 and 6-0.

In game one, the pitchers kept both offenses at bay through the majority of the game, with just five hits given up.
After four scoreless innings, Destinee Lizzmore blistered the second pitch she saw, sending it way over the left center wall. The solo shot proved lethal, putting the Colonels over the top, 1-0.
Mollie Paulick took over hurling duties with one out and bases loaded in the fifth. The sophomore collected back-to-back strikeouts, sealing the shutout and collecting the win.
Lizzmore doubled to get things started in game two. Paige Murphy followed, going yard for the 18th time this season to put EKU up early, 2-0. Two batters later, Johnkyria Alston came up with a two-bagger of her own and Emily Corbitt walked to put two on for Zoe Mihalicz. The freshman notched the second homer of the inning as the Colonels put the Bruins in a 5-0 hole.
Corbitt came up with a solo round-tripper in the third to make it 6-0, EKU.
Belmont attempted to cut into the lead with a solo homer in the top stanza of the sixth, but Murphy robbed it just over the wall.
Paulick (16-5) went the distance in the nightcap, tossing 10 strikeouts in route to completing the one-hit shutout. Â The Centerville, Ohio native has had a hand in 9-of-11 shutouts this season for EKU.
Mihalicz led the charge in game two, going 3-for-4 at the dish.
With the victory, the Colonels improve to 35-14 with a 17-1 mark in the Ohio Valley Conference, while Belmont falls to 22-24 (3-15 OVC).
