Softball Heads To Los Angeles For NISC Championship

RICHMOND, Ky. –
The Eastern Kentucky University softball team is set to head to Los Angeles, California to take part in the National Softball Invitational Championship hosted by Loyola Marymount.
 
The Colonels will take on the University of California – Riverside at 4:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday. If EKU wins it will take on the winner of the LMU/University of Texas at Arlington contest on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. ET. Should Eastern lose, it will square off against the loser at 1 p.m. ET Thursday.
 
Triple Crown Sports and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association have joined to bring back the tournament. The postseason Division-I event highlights the explosive growth of women's softball and the depth of talent on collegiate rosters.
 
LAST TIME OUT
 
-EKU (44-19) topped the NISC undefeated Towson University in two nail-biting games. The Colonels staged come-from-behind wins in each.
 
-Paige Murphy, Destinee Lizzmore, Johnkyria Alston and Murphy McRoberts were named to the NISC All-Region team while Hannah Clark was selected as the EKU Region Most Valuable Player.
 
-The sweep of Towson set a new program wins record for Eastern Kentucky.
 
-Lizzmore led the charge offensively through the tournament, hitting .500 with a double, a homer and four runs batted in.
 
-Clark collected three bombs and 10 RBIs, Alston notched a homer and two doubles while Emily Corbitt collected a grand slam.
 
-McRoberts went 3-0 for the NISC Regional, shutting down the Tigers the final day.  
 
THE FIELD
 
UC RIVERSIDE       
-The Highlanders (36-22) ride a three-game winning streak into the championship after sweeping its regional. The squad notched shut outs in two of its three contests.
 
-UC Riverside boasts five athletes hitting over .300, led by Jenna Curtan at .374.
 
-Hailey Dolcini leads the charge from the circle with a 1.80 earned run average.
 
-UCR's shortstop, Hannah Rodriguez, was named Big West Defensive Player of the Year.
 
LOYOLA MARYMOUNT    
-LMU (31-24-1) has won three of its last four contests, after going into the regional championship game undefeated South Dakota State forced the "if necessary" game.
 
-The Lions' head coach Sami Strinz-Ward was named the West Coast Conference Softball Coach of the Year.
 
-Hannah Badimere was named co-pitcher of the year and Maddison Flores was named defensive player of the year.
 
-Delanie Wisz is leading the Lions offensive with a .331 mark. She is just 1-of-3 starters hitting over .300.
 
-Bandimere is tossing a 2.04 ERA from the rubber with 21 complete games.
 
UT ARLINGTON
-The Mavericks (30-26) also ride a three-game winning streak into the contest after sweeping their regional.
 
-Laura Curry is leading UTA from the batter's box with a .358 average while Randi Phillips is leading the pitching staff with a .298 ERA.
 
-Curry and Reagan White were the lone Mavs named All-Sun Belt First Team.
