UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team dropped matches to the United States Naval Academy and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County on Saturday afternoon to close out its matches at the Penn State Invitational.

The Colonels dropped match one by scores of 25-21, 26-24 and 25-18.

In the first set Navy took a commanding 18-10 advantage before a bad set from the Midshipmen opened up an 8-1 Colonel run that ended on back-to-back kills from
Lindsey Wilkins to change the lead, 20-19.

After a timeout the Mids (1-1) went on a 6-1 run of their own to take the match 25-21.

The Colonels led 17-13 in set two before Navy rallied to take the lead and eventually the set.

Wilkins and
Cassie Knutson led the Colonels with eight kills each while
Rachel Woody tallied her first double-double of the year with 18 assists and 13 digs.
Chloe Rojas chipped in 15 digs.

Kaylin Johnson led the Colonels with three blocks.

The Colonels (0-3) fell in match two by scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 31-29.

Knutson led the defensive effort for EKU with 13 kills while Wilkins chipped in seven. Woody racked up 24 assists.

The squads exchanged points the entire third set, but the Retrievers scored three unanswered to fight off set point and take their own lead, 25-24. Johnson and Woody made a crucial block to tie the score back at 25-25.

The score tied again at 26, 27 and 28 before a block and kill from UMBC (1-2) swung the match in its favor, taking the set, 31-29.

EKU will be back in action August 31-September 1 at the Lobo Classic in Albuquerque, New Mexico where it will take on New Mexico, New Mexico State and Florida Gulf Coast.
