RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team fell in straight sets on Friday night to SIU Edwardsville. Â

The Colonels lost 18-25, 22-25 and 20-25.

Freshman
Adria Hartley led the way for the Colonels with a match-best 10 kills.
Kaylin Johnson chipped in nine kills of her own.

Eastern got off to a quick start and jumped out to a commanding 15-7 lead in the opening set after a kill by
Rachel Woody. That kill forced an SIUE timeout, but after the timeout the Cougars used an 18-3 run to close out the opening stanza to win the set 25-18.

The second set was a set of runs. The two teams each used runs and we were tied 10-10 early in the set. After an EKU attack error gave the Cougars a 20-16 lead, Eastern responded with a 3-0 run of its own to cut the lead to 20-19 and force a SIUE timeout. The Cougars scored five of the last eight points to take the set 25-22.

In set three, after the score was tied 8-8, SIUE used a 7-3 run to take a 15-11 lead and never look back. Eastern cut the lead to 22-20 after a kill by Johnson, but Edwardsville scored the last three points of the set to complete the sweep 25-20.

Rachel McDonald paced the offense for the Cougars with a match-best 10 kills on the night. Hope Everett pitched in nine kills of her own.

Eastern returns to the court tomorrow at home when the Colonels take on Eastern Illinois. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. Â
