RICHMOND, KY. – The Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team fell in straight sets Thursday night to Jacksonville State.

The Colonels lost 17-25, 23-25 and 20-25.

Abby Noll posted a team-high 10 kills and five digs.
Kaylin Johnson chipped in nine kills of her own with a .389 hitting percentage.
Dena Tekavec posted a match-high three aces.

The two teams traded points a lot to start the set and Eastern took a 7-6 lead after the JSU service error. The Gamecocks answered back with a 4-0 run to take a 10-7 lead and not look back. Jacksonville State followed its 4-0 run with another 7-3 run to take a 17-11 lead and took the opening set 25-17.

In set two, the teams traded points again to open up the set. With the scored tied, 10-10, Eastern scored five of the next eight points capped off by a Noll kill to take a 15-13 lead forcing a JSU timeout. After an attack error by Jacksonville State gave Eastern the 20-15 lead, the Gamecocks used a 4-1 run to cut the Colonel lead to 21-19 and force an Eastern timeout. The Gamecocks closed the set on a 6-2 run to storm back and take the second set 25-23.

Jacksonville State opened the third stanza on a 6-1 run and never looked back. Eastern got as close as two twice, 8-6 and 9-7, but could never get any closer. The Gamecocks took the final set 25-20 to complete the sweep. Â Â

JSU was led by Lena Kindermann who posted a match-high 13 kills. JSU hit .252 on the contest.

Eastern returns to the court tomorrow against Tennessee Tech in Cookeville. First serve is scheduled for 8 p.m.
