EKU Volleyball Falls In Straight Sets To Morehead State

MOREHEAD, Ky. –
The Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team fell in straight sets Wednesday night at in-state rival Morehead State University.
 
The Colonels lost 18-25, 22-25 and 15-25.
 
Abby Noll posted a team-best 12 kills and 6 digs. Noll hit .265 on the contest. Jovana Bulatovic chipped in eight kills of her own.
 
In the opening stanza the two teams traded points to start. After a kill by Mikayla Logan tied the opening set at 10-10, Morehead State went on a 6-1 run capped off by a service ace to take a 16-11 lead. Eastern cut the lead to 17-15 after an attack error by the Eagles, but Morehead State scored eight of the last 11 points to take the opening set 25-18.
 
In set two, Morehead State jumped out to an early 8-6 lead after a service error by the Colonels. But Eastern responded with a 4-0 run after a kill by Noll and three straight errors by the Eagles to take a 10-8 lead. The Eagles used an 8-1 run lead to take a commanding 19-14 lead in the set. Eastern did not go down without a fight though. Eastern used a 3-0 run to cut the Eagles' lead 22-21, capped off by an attack error by Morehead State. MSU used a 3-1 run to end the set and take a 2-0 lead.  
 
Set three started with runs, but the two teams were tied 6-6 after an Adria Hartley kill. After Eastern took a 10-9 lead after a kill by Noll, Morehead State went on an 11-1 run to take a commanding 20-11 lead and not look back. Morehead State won the final set 25-15 to complete the sweep.
 
Olivia Lohmeier led the way for the Eagles posting a match-high 17 kills on the contest. Mia Swearingen chipped in 11 kills of her own.
 
Eastern returns to the court on Saturday when the Colonels host Murray State. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
