HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Eastern Kentucky University men's basketball team fell at Marshall, 90-72, on Thursday night at the Cam Henderson Center.
Sophomore
Tre King equaled his career high with 15 points in the loss. Fellow sophomore
Jomaru Brown recorded his first career double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing a career-best 10 rebounds.
Senior
Lachlan Anderson came off the bench to finish with 13 points. Senior
Ty Taylor chipped in 11 points, while freshman
Michael Moreno tallied eight points and eight boards, six of which were offensive.
Iran Bennett led Marshall (5-6) with 21 points and 16 rebounds. Traevion Kinsey contributed 19 points.
EKU (3-8) ran out to a quick 10-point lead when King converted a layup to make it 21-11 with 10:54 remaining in the first half.
The Thundering Herd, however, responded with an 11-0 run and reclaimed the lead, 22-21, on a three-pointer by Darius George at the 9:29 mark. Marshall then closed the first half on a 6-0 run to take a 39-31 advantage into the locker room at the break.
A 16-0 run by Marshall early in the second half blew the game open.
Eastern forced Marshall into 22 turnovers and scored 24 points off those turnovers. However, the Colonels were out-rebounded by the Herd, 51-38.
EKU returns home to host Charleston Southern on Saturday evening. Tip from McBrayer Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m.
