Brown's Career Night Leads EKU Past Tennessee State

RICHMOND, Ky. –  Freshman Jomaru Brown scored a career-high 30 points as the Eastern Kentucky men's basketball team defeated Tennessee State, 75-65, on Saturday night at McBrayer Arena.
 
The Tigers got off to a quick start, using a 12-2 run to take a 24-15 lead after a basket and free throw by DaJion Henderson with 8:12 left in the first half.
 
Trailing 28-19, EKU used an 11-0 run capped off by a Cameron Carmical three-pointer to take a 30-28 lead with 2:06 remaining in the first half. EKU went into the half leading 32-31.
 
The Colonels scored six of the first nine points to open up the second half to take a 38-34 lead and never trailed again. 
 
Brown scored seven straight Colonel points in the second half to give Eastern a 49-42 advantage with 10:44 remaining in the game.
 
Dave Morris knocked down a three with 9:09 remaining to cut the Colonel lead to 51-45, but TSU never got any closer.
 
EKU hit 14-of-15 free throws in the final 2:27 to seal the victory down the stretch.
 
Brown added five rebounds and four assists. Freshman Tre King went for 12 points and four rebounds. Kelvin Robinson chipped in 10 points and nine boards. Senior Nick Mayo scored only nine points, but contributed 12 rebounds, three blocks and two assists.
 
Michael Littlejohn had 16 points, four assists and two rebounds on the night for the Tigers. Kamar McKnight chipped in 12 points and two rebounds.
 
Eastern shot 30-for-34 (88 percent) on the night from the free throw line, outscoring the Tigers by 22 points from the stripe.
 
The Colonels out-rebounded the Tigers 43-35.
 
Eastern returns to the court Thursday when the Colonels travel to Morehead to take on in-state rival Morehead State. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:35 p.m.
