MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team won a pair of contests on the first day of the ASU Invitational.

EKU knocked off Southeastern Louisiana in game one, 5-0. In game two, Eastern knocked off the host Alabama State, 6-2.

In game one Eastern got off to a little bit of a slow start not being able to push anything across the first couple of innings.

Things opened up in the third inning. Gaby De La Cerda and
Destinee Lizzmore started the inning with back-to-back singles. That is when
Hannah Clark doubled in the right center gap to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the third.

In the top of the fourth inning,
Sammi Miller started off with a leadoff walk.
Carly Robinson wasted no time sending her third home run of the year over the left field fence to take a 4-0 lead after four innings.

EKU added one more in the top of the fifth inning to go up 5-0.
Â
Samantha Reynoso (3-1) stared in the circle for EKU and went three and two-thirds inning without allowing a hit. She picked up the win.

Mollie Paulick tossed the last three and two-thirds, only allowing one hit and striking out five.
Â
Clark led the way offensively going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Robinson was 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.

In game two, Alabama State struck first with a run in the bottom of the first after three straight hits.
Â
But it was all EKU after that. Eastern scored five runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 6-1 lead and not look back.

Lizzmore started the party with a solo home run to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth. Back-to-back singles by Clark and Mihalic put runners on first and second with no one out.
Erica Bowers bunted and reached on an error, and Clark scored from second on the throw.

Miller had a bunt single that scored Mihalicz and put runners on the corners with one out. That is when a double steal by Miller and Reynoso pushed another run across in the top of the fifth. Then Matti Morales joined the fun with a RBI double to take a 6-1 lead.

EKU scored in the third after Miller reached first with a single, stole second and reached third on a passed ball. Robinson drove her in with a RBI single.

Reynoso picked up her second win on the day and her fourth on the year moving to 4-1 on the season.
Â
Miller was 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Â
EKU had 10 hits in game two.
Â
Eastern returns to the field tomorrow at noon against Purdue Fort Wayne followed by a game against Western Illinois at 4 p.m.
