EKU Beach Volleyball Loses A Pair Of Contests At Carson-Newman

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. –
Eastern Kentucky University's beach volleyball team lost a pair of contests at Carson-Newman University on Saturday.
 
The Colonels (0-8) lost to Tusculum University, 3-2, in the first match, before falling to Carson-Newman University, 5-0.
 
In match number one, the number five pairing got things started first. Clairissa Hankinson and Mikayla Logan lost their first set 21-12. They stormed back to take the second set 23-21, before falling in the last set 15-7.
 
Rachel Woody and Kennedy Wilson got the Colonels on the board first. They rolled in an easy first set, winning 21-8 in the fourth pairing. The Pioneers pairing of Lydia Collins and Catherine Clingan fought back to take set number two 21-15. Woody and Wilson took the final set 15-9 to win the point.
 
Sydney Schoen and Katelynn Caserma-Kloeble fell behind first, losing the first set 21-18, but they would storm back to take the final two sets of the game 21-16 and 15-12 to win the match and get the Colonels a second point.
 
Tusculum (6-9) swept the one and three seeds to take the match 3-2.
 
In match two the Eagles swept the Colonels to win the match 5-0.
 
Carson-Newman (1-13) got off to a quick start, winning the first set of the number five pairing 21-10. Natalie Burchesky and Annie Cvelbar prevented the sweep in straight sets by taking set number two, 21-19, before falling in the last set 15-11.
 
The Eagles took the number three and four pairings in straight sets to take a 3-0 lead and clinch the victory.
 
Schoen and Caserma-Kloeble took the early lead in the number two pairing by winning the first set 21-14. Grace Seymour and Morgan Siwiec battled back taking the last two sets 21-11 and 15-10 to win the point.
 
Dena Tekavec and Jovana Bulatovic dominated the first set in their pairing, taking it 21-11. They fell in the last two sets 21-12 and 16-14 to give the Eagles the 5-0 sweep.  
 
Eastern will return to the sand tomorrow. The Colonels will take on Tusculum at 9 a.m. followed by Carson-Newman at 12 p.m.
