Big Seventh Inning Sends EKU Baseball Past Oakland In Series Opener

Box Score

RICHMOND, Ky. –
A four-run seventh inning sent the Eastern Kentucky baseball team to an 11-6 win over Oakland in the first game of a three-game series on Saturday at Earle Combs Stadium.

The Colonels and Golden Grizzlies will conclude the weekend with a doubleheader starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

Trailing 6-5 entering the bottom of the seventh, EKU (8-5) loaded the bases with one out.  After a strike out, pinch hitter Christian Lucio punched the ball through the right side to score two runs and put the Colonels in front 7-6.  An error on a fly ball to right field allowed two more runs to score.

Nick Howie's RBI single in the bottom of the fifth gave Eastern a 5-2 lead.  Oakland (0-11) platted two runs in the top of the sixth on a Mike McGhee RBI double and a ground ball that scored Drew Demumbrum.  The Golden Grizzlies scored a pair in the top of the seventh to go in front 6-5.  Mario Camilletti had an RBI single through the right side and Demumbrum added a sacrifice fly.

Ryland Kerr had a 3-for-4 day and scored three runs for EKU.  A.J. Lewis finished 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs and three RBIs.
