NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team split a pair of contests against Tennessee State University on Saturday in Nashville. Â

EKU (19-15, 6-4 OVC) lost game one against the Tigers, 1-0, before knocking off Tennessee State, 2-0, in game two. Â

In game two, Eastern got an inside the park home run from
Sammi Miller, her first of the year, to defeat the Tigers. Â

In the top of the fifth inning
Melissa Jacobsen singled to left field with two outs to extend the inning. She stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball to set up Millers heroics. Miller took the 2-1 pitch down the left field line for an inside the park home run to take a 2-0 lead.

Mollie Paulick (7-6) started in the circle going four and two-third innings, striking out five and allowing three hits.
Samantha Reynoso came on in relief, throwing the last two and one-third innings without allowing a hit and striking out one.

Destinee Lizzmore went 2-for-4 with one double. Miller was 2-for-4 with one triple, one home run and two RBIs.

Eastern out-hit the Tigers 6-3.

Game one was a pitchers dual as well. Â

Tennessee State (9-19, 2-8 OVC) had the first four batters reach base to take a 1-0 lead, which was all the Tigers needed in game one.

Paulick came on in relief for the Colonels pitching six innings and striking out a season-high 10 batters.

Six different Colonels recorded hits in the game.

Raven Loveless went the distance in the circle for the Tigers. She struck out three allowing only six hits while picking up the win.

Eastern out-hit the Tigers 6-4 on the game.
The Colonels return home for their seven game home stand starting on Tuesday against in-state rival Morehead State. First pitch will be at 4 p.m. with game two starting approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
