AMES, Iowa – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team's run in the National Invitational Softball Championship came to an end after falling to Purdue University, 3-1, on Saturday morning.

Purdue (33-28) struck first in the top half of the first inning. Mallory Baker took the 0-1 pitch over the right field wall to give the Boilermakers a 1-0 lead.

The score stayed steady until the bottom of the fourth.
Hannah Clark took the 2-2 pitch into the right center gap to break up the no-hitter and put a runner on second with one out.
Zoe Mihalicz followed suit with a double into the left center gap to put EKU (35-22) on the board and tie the game at 1-1 after four innings of play.

Purdue answered back in the top of the fifth. After a walk and a pair of singles loaded the bases for the Boilermakers, Baker delivered again this time with a double in the left center gap to bring home two and give the Boilermakers the lead, 3-1.

Murphy McRoberts started in the circle going four and one-third innings, striking out two and allowing three runs on the game.

Mihalicz went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Clark chipped in a 1-for-3 with one double and one run.
