Historic Day Leads EKU To A Sweep Over Belmont

NASHVILLE, Tenn. –
 The Eastern Kentucky University softball team swept a doubleheader against Belmont University on Thursday night in Nashville.
 
EKU (30-18, 16-6 OVC) won game one, 10-2 in five innings, before winning game two, 10-1.
 
Destinee Lizzmore went 4-for-4 with six RBIs becoming the first player in EKU softball history to hit for the cycle in game one.
 
In game one Eastern scored in each of the first three innings and never looked back. 
 
Eastern wasted no time in the first inning against the Bruins. Sammi Miller got hit on the first pitch of the game. On the second pitch of the game Melissa Jacobsen laid down a bunt and reached via a Bruin error. That is when Hannah Clark sent the 1-2 pitch up the middle to bring home the first run of the game. Eastern was not done there, Lizzmore sent a pitch right back where it came from to bring home Jacobsen and Clark and take a 3-0 lead after the first inning.
 
In the second inning, Miller and Jacobsen had back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second with two outs in the top half of the inning. Lizzmore delivered again, doubling in the left center gap to bring home two more runs and take a 5-0 lead. EKU was not done there, after a walk by Emily Corbitt, Zoe Mihalicz doubled up the middle to bring home Lizzmore and take a 6-0 lead after two innings of play.
 
In the top of the third Erica Bowers got things started with her second home run of the year after sending the 2-2 pitch over the right field fence to take a 7-0 lead. Brooke Harrison joined the fun singling to left field to put a runner on first with no one out. That is when Miller sent the 1-0 pitch into the left center field gap to bring home Harrison and take an 8-0 lead. With two outs, Lizzmore took the 1-1 pitch over the left field fence to take a 10-0 lead over the Bruins after three innings.
 
Belmont (30-21, 12-10 OVC) got two in the bottom of the fourth, after a two-run home run by Aaudrey Lyle to make it 10-2.
 
In the top of the fifth, Lizzmore made history sending the 0-1 pitch into the right center gap for a triple to complete the first ever cycle in EKU softball history.
 
Sammi Reynoso (9-2) started in the circle going five innings allowing two runs on the day.
 
Miller went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Mihalicz was 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
 
Eastern out hit Belmont 13-4 in game one.

In game two Mollie Paulick tossed a no-hitter and Eastern scored in all five innings to run rule the Bruins 10-1.
 
In the top of the first Miller walked, stole second and reached third after a passed ball to start the game. Jacobsen followed with a walk of her own to put runners on the corners with no one out. Lizzmore continued her stellar day at the plate sending a sac fly to right field to bring home the first run of the game.   
 
Robinson hit her eighth dinger of the year after taking the first pitch she saw over the right field fence to take a 2-0 lead. After a Bowers walk, Miller doubled into the left center field gap to give the Colonels a 3-0 lead. Jacobsen singled to short to bring home Miller and give Eastern the 4-0 lead after two innings.
 
Lizzmore continued her tear with her second home run of the day to take a 5-0 lead
 
Belmont pushed a run across in the bottom of the third after a sac fly by Chelsea Thomas.
 
In the top of the fifth inning, Clark got it started with a bunt single followed by Lizzmore getting hit to put runners on first and second with no one out. Mihalicz drew a walk to load the bases and Robinson continued her big day with a two RBI single into left field. Bowers followed suit with a RBI up the middle. Harrison joined the fun with a single to left field to bring home Robinson and put the run rule into effect.
 
Paulick went five innings while striking out nine and allowing one run on her way to her first no-hitter of the season.
