After a pair of singles, Kevin Strohschein hit a three-run home run to put TTU up 3-2 and get the big third inning started.  JD Funk had a two-run double down the left field line.  Strohschein had a sacrifice fly when he came up for the second time in the inning.  John Dyer's three-run home run made it an 11-2 game.  Gavin Johns finished off the frame with a run scoring double down the left field line.

Brent Lovell's first career home run to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning, followed immediately by Corey Conklin's third round tripper of the season made it a 12-6 game.

The Colonels (24-22, 10-12 OVC) took an early 2-0 lead on Logan Thomason's sacrifice fly in the first inning and Ryland Kerr's RBI double to center in the second.

Lovell was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Thomason added a two-run single in the bottom of the ninth and finished 1-for-4 with three RBIs.

Dyer finished 1-for-2 with three walks, two runs and three RBIs for the Golden Eagles (19-25, 7-15 OVC).  Strohschein had a 3-for-4 day with a run and four RBIs.

"They came out swinging the bat in that third inning, scored 12 and it was hard to come back from," EKU Head Coach Edwin Thompson said.  "I'm proud of how our guys fought and gave us a chance in the later part of the game to get in striking distance, unfortunately we came up short.  The key tonight was Jacob Abbott he did an outstanding job out of the bullpen.  After that big inning we needed someone to step up and he stepped up and did a good job."

Abbott pitched the final six and two-thirds innings.  He allowed three runs, walked one and struck out seven.  The junior more than doubled his previous career-high for innings pitched in an appearance and tied his career-best for strikeouts.
