EKU Volleyball Hits The Road To Ohio For The Akron Invitational This Weekend

AKRON, OHIO. –
The Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team hits the road for Akron, Ohio for the Akron Invitational this weekend.
 
The Colonels will take on Seton Hall Friday at 4 p.m. They will follow that up with the host University of Akron at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and Saint Francis University at 4:30 p.m.
 
Live statistics will be provided for all matches.
 
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
 
-Eastern comes into the weekend at 3-4 after losing in the midweek to in-state rival Western Kentucky.
-Freshman Abby Noll comes into the weekend ranked fourth in the conference in kills and kills per set. She ranks seventh in digs and ninth in digs per set.  
-Dena Tekavec ranks fifth in the conference in digs.
-Senior Rachel Woody ranks fifth in the conference with her 213 assists on the year.
-Eastern ranks third in the conference in opponent hitting percentage at .158.
-The Colonels rank third in kills per set at 12.91.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
 
SETON HALL
-The Pirates come into the weekend at 2-6 after a midweek sweep of Iona College.
-This will be the first ever meeting between the two teams.
-Senior middle blocker Haylee Gasser who has a team-best 73 kills on the year leads Seton Hall.  
-Freshman setter Grace Rosenberg ranks eighth in the Big East with 149 assists on the year.
-Raygen Murray ranks seventh in the conference in digs with 93.  
 
AKRON
-Akron comes into the weekend at 2-4 after going 1-2 at the Xavier Tournament.  
-Eastern leads the all-time series between the two teams 12-1.
-Junior setter Emily Weigand ranks sixth in the MAC with 202 assists on the year.
-Taylor Sharrits leads the way defensively for the Zips with her team-high 91 digs. 
-Akron ranks ninth in the conference in service aces.
 
SAINT FRANCIS
-Eastern leads the all-time series between the two teams 3-0, with the last meeting coming in 2016.
-The Red Flash come into the weekend at 0-6 on the year after falling in three matches at the UMBC Tournament.
-Madi Tyus leads the way for the Red Flash with a team-best 80 kills and 61 digs.
-Kimmy Sweeney brings her team-high 155 assists on the year into this weekend.  
 
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
-EKU welcomes Marshall University to Richmond for its home opener next Tuesday. First serve is at 6 p.m.
