EKU Volleyball Falls In Four Sets To Tennessee State

RICHMOND, KY. –
The Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team lost in four sets on Friday night against Tennessee State University.  
 
The Colonels lost 22-25, 25-27, 25-22 and 25-27.
 
Freshman Abby Noll posted a double-double with her match-high 19 kills and 11 digs. Kaylin Johnson posted 11 kills of her own. Rachel Woody posted a match-high 31 assists.
 
In set one, after an attack error by the Colonels, Tennessee State took a 10-6 lead in the opening set. After a kill by Clairissa Hankinson cut the Tigers lead to 12-10, TSU scored six of the next eight points to take an 18-12 lead. Eastern did not go down without a fight though, after an attack error by Tennessee State cut the lead to 23-20, the two teams traded points the rest of the way for the Tigers to take the opening set, 25-22.
 
In set two, the Colonels got off to a good start and took a 14-9 lead after a service ace by Raegan Alexander that forced a TSU timeout. Tennessee State answered back though and tied the set at 18-18 after a service ace of its own. The two teams traded points until the match was tied 25-25, before the Tigers won the last two points of the set to take set two 27-25.
 
It was back and forth all of set three and the Colonels took their biggest lead at 20-18 after a kill by Noll. After an attack error by Eastern tied the match at 20-20, the Colonels scored five of the last seven points to take the set 25-22.
 
Eastern took a 14-9 lead in set four after an attack error by Tennessee State. Leading 24-19, the Tigers scored eight of the last nine points to take the set, 27-25, and the match.
 
Julia Pierson led TSU with a team-best 17 kills and 13 digs.
 
Eastern returns to the court tomorrow against Belmont University at home. First serve is at 1 p.m.
