ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team hits the road for Asheville, North Carolina for the UNC Asheville Tournament this weekend.
The Colonels will take on host UNC Asheville on Friday at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, Eastern takes on Dartmouth College at 10:30 a.m. followed by North Carolina A&T at 4 p.m.
Live statistics will be provided for all matches.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
-Head Coach
Johnna Fouch picked up her first win as head coach against Gardner-Webb last Friday.
-Freshman
Abby Noll was named OVC Newcomer of the Week last week after she posted 44 kills and 41 digs in three matches.
-Noll ranks fifth in the conference in kills and eighth in digs.
-Senior transfer
Dena Tekavec ranks first in the conference with 61 digs on the year. She posted 31 digs and eight assists in the win against Gardner-Webb.
-
Rachel Woody posted three double-doubles, with 48 assists and 12 digs against Gardner-Webb.
-
Jovana Bulatovic finished with 31 kills on the weekend, for a 3.10 kill per set ratio.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
UNC ASHEVILLE
-This will be the first meeting ever between the two teams.
-UNC Asheville comes into the weekend at 1-2 after sweeping Southern, before falling to Long Beach State and Georgia Tech
-The Bulldogs are led by senior Julia Borges who has a team-best 33 kills on the year, which ranks third in the Big South.
-Kasey West leads the way for the defense with a team-high 42 digs on the year. West ranks fourth in the conference on the year.
DARTMOUTH
-Eastern leads the all-time series between the two teams 1-0, with the only meeting being in 2005.
-The Big Green posted a 10-15 record a year ago. This will be Dartmouth's first matches of the year.
-Dartmouth was picked fifth in the Ivy League preseason poll.
-Sophomore outside hitter Nicole Liddle returns after posting a team-high 168 kills last year.
-Corinne Cox returns as the team's leading dig person from a year ago. She posted 162 digs which was good enough for second on the team.
NORTH CAROLINA A&T
-Eastern leads the all-time series between the two teams 1-0, with the only meeting coming in 2013.
-The Aggies come into the weekend at 0-3 after falling to Morehead State, Winthrop and Davidson this past weekend.
-Courtney Pitt leads the way for the Aggies posting a team-best 26 kills and 23 digs on the year.
-Edie Brewer ranks second in each category posting 25 kills and 14 digs.
