Colonels Travel to Austin Peay for Saturday Doubleheader

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men's and women's basketball teams travel to Clarksville, Tennessee on Saturday to face Austin Peay in an Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader.

The women tip from the Dunn Center at 2:30 p.m. ET, followed by the men's game around 5:30 p.m. ET.

Both games will stream live on ESPN+.

INSIDE THE SERIES
- Eastern leads the all-times series between the two teams, 49-34.
 
- The Govs have won the last three meetings in the series.  
 
THE COLONELS
-  Eastern is 10-14 (4-9 OVC) after knocking off in-state rival Morehead State, 68-47, Thursday in Morehead.
 
-  Teri Goodlett led the way for the Colonels posting a game-high 17 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals in the win against the Eagles.
 
-  Qay Stanton posted 11 points, tied a career-high seven assists and had five steals.
 
-  Bria Bass came off the bench and chipped in 15 points and seven rebounds in the win against Morehead State.
 
-  The Colonels rank third in the OVC in field goal percentage defense.
 
- First year head coach Samantha Williams has led the team to 10 wins and four conference victories.  Last season, the team won just two games and went winless in the OVC.
 
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Austin Peay comes into the contest at 14-10 (5-8 OVC), after knocking off rival Murray State, 69-61, Thursday at home.
 
-  Brandy Ferby led the way for the Governors posting a game-best 20 points and three rebounds in the win against the Racers.
 
-  Arielle Gonzalez-Varner chipped in 18 points and eight rebounds.
 
-  Ella Sawyer ranks seventh in OVC play in three-point field goal percentage.
 
-  Gonzalez-Varner ranks fourth in the conference in offensive rebounding.  
 
UP NEXT
Eastern Kentucky returns home for two games to take on Tennessee State on Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.

WHAT TO KNOW
 
EKU improved to 10-3 in the OVC with a 78-71 win over rival Morehead State on Thursday night. It was the Colonels' first win in Morehead since 2015.
 
Eastern is currently tied with Belmont for second place in the OVC standings.
 
Jomaru Brown finished with 19 points and a career-high nine assists in the win over Morehead State.
 
The Colonels stifled Morehead State to 12 percent (3-of-25) shooting from three-point range on Thursday. EKU now ranks third in the OVC in three-point field goal percentage defense (32.0%).
 
EKU shot a season-best 55.2 percent (32-of-58) from the field at Morehead State.
 
Freshman Tariq Balogun played a career-high 16 minutes vs. the Eagles and responded with 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field. He also collected three rebounds.
 
Ty Taylor enters Saturday's game 26 points shy of 1,000 for his career. Brown is 73 points shy of the 1K mark.
 
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
 
Austin Peay (17-9, 11-2 OVC) edged rival Murray State, 71-68, on Thursday night in Clarksville, moving into a tie for first place with the Racers.
 
Terry Taylor leads the Govs, averaging 22.1 points and 10.5 rebounds-per-game.
 
This is the 117th all-time meeting between EKU and Austin Peay. APSU leads the series, 63-53; however, the Colonels won the last meeting, 82-80, on February 28, 2019 in Richmond.
